Recessed 6-Pack

I’m in a “recessed six-pack” frame of mind. Thanks to an evening hanging out with my sister, who needs to take credit for this phrase, I’ve refreshed my fitness outlook as well as a theme that I want to embrace across many areas of my life.

A six-pack is that pinnacle of fitness for many. Unfortunately, biology favors the male population in this endeavor and honestly, very few females can pull off a sexy six-pack and not look like they’re about to kick your ass. Nonetheless, after taking a few “relaxed” weeks in my fitness regimen, I’m ready to go hard core and reach that pinnacle. And since this blog is about being transparent, my goal to have this sexy, I-won’t-kick-your-ass-even-though-I-could, six-pack in 5 weeks. Goodbye lattes! Hello, water, running, drill sergeant, crunches, Jillian Michaels, Bob Harper, coffee with skim milk…. Sure, this sounds like torture to some. But to me, this sounds like just another challenge, just another milestone. And really, the biggest challenge for me will be that it has a due date. A hard, due date. As I log my food, log my workouts and push myself to new limits, I’ll keep you posted on it – I’m sure there’ll be plenty of laughs along the way :)

But what really caught my attention about the phrase “recessed six-pack” was the idea that I had it already, it was a matter of bringing it out. And this is the golden ticket. That idea is so transferable. Whether you’re looking to attain a fitness goal, excel in your career, reach the work/home balance, or become that best friend you know your other half deserves, the point is that, you can do it! It’s already there, you just need to use the tools around you to reach it! That idea is so freeing. It’s so hopeful and it’s not out of reach or far fetched.

Kudos, to my sister for saying “recessed six-pack” on our chill Wednesday night. It not only propelled me to really try and reach that fitness pinnacle, but it shed light on something so exciting that I just can’t stop thinking about what other “recessed” opportunities are out there to seize.
